What is Rheumatology?

Rheumatology is special branch of medicine that deals with arthritis or joint pain, many autoimmune disorders and musculoskeletal symptoms. Common diseases treated by rheumatologist includes rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, SLE or systemic lupus, vasculitis, inflammatory myositis, scleroderma or systemic sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome, mixed connective tissue disorder and many others.

Direct Rheumatology Care

Traditional insurance based medical care has been involved into more profit-oriented industry rather than being patient oriented, so there has been emergence of direct care, mainly in the form of primary care for last decade. Though there are many direct primary care but specialty care has been slow to adopt the new approach. Rheumatology being a specialty care is also lagging behind, so Nova Rheumatology established in Raleigh, North Carolina to change how medicine and rheumatology is practiced.

In direct rheumatology care, insurance is not needed or required. It is based on membership subscription and anyone can be member. No referral is essential. With affordable monthly membership fee anyone can have access to wide range of benefits including clinic visits, discounted labs and medications, easy access and direct communication with provider etc. The membership is neither concierge service nor any type of insurance. It is simply a way of an affordable care with longer visits, easy access and greater patient's satisfaction.

Nova Direct Rheumatology Care

Nova Rheumatology is the first direct care rheumatology in North Carolina. It is established by Dr. Nazmul Kabir as a solo practice in Raleigh. The purpose of the practice is to provide exceptional care and be involved in every step of the care without any interference from outside or third parties. In order to provide direct care we have to get rid of "middleman" or third party-insurance companies and replace it with more accountable and transparent process. To make it clear, just ask yourself how much you understand your health insurance and big health or hospital system. Are those process transparent? If the answer is no or if you do not know then this is the right place. If you are not satisfied with status quo or our degrading health systems, you may look at our alternative path.

Every human being is different, so medical care should be customized according to one's need. Conventional system does not allow customized care. Our goal is to provide individualized care according to your need and preference.

The Big Difference: Traditional vs Direct Care

Traditional insurance-based healthcare

• Requires referral to see Rheumatologist.

• Wait time to see new rheumatologist could be months to a year. Sometimes even established patient can have difficulty getting in sooner if needed.

• You may have to pay co-pay, coinsurance and/or deductible on top of high insurance premium.

• Limited time with providers as they have to juggle with many patients and may lead to less satisfied or short visit.

• Most of the time there is no direct communication with the provider and sometimes delayed response to inquiries.

• Sometimes insurance limits who you can choose as a provider and often you have to switch provider if you do not have the same insurance.

• Surprise costs or bills.

• Less transparent process.

Nova Direct Rheumatology Care

• No referral is needed.

• Wait time is significantly shorter, most patient can be seen in 1 week.

• No insurance is required.

• Significant longer and adequate visit time for individual patient. New patient visit is 1 hour and follow-up visit 30 minutes on average. No rush visit.

• Direct communication with the provider with easy accessibility.

• No need to switch provider with change of insurance.

• No surprise bills.

• All the processes and costs are transparent.
